Halikunas sandy beach is connecting and seperates the sea and the Lake Korision ( lake with seawater).
The sandy beach is 3 km long.
Along the Halikuna area you can find 3 Tavernas where you can find delicious home made greek foods and fresh fishes.
You will find shopping facilities
in the nearest village, Agios Matthaios or Messonghi area, which is about 5 km
away.
The magnificent Castle at Gardiki although partially demolished has a distinct Byzantine feature that pervades the entire edifice.
One can view the castle right from the entrance of Gardiki village. Renowned scholars of Corfu equate this marvelous Castle with the magnificent Angelokastro Fort. This is primarily because of the fact that the castle was built during the same period and what is more, by the same Archbishop.
The castle is conspicuous by its octagonal shape and an ellipsoidal attachment. The bordering parapets were adorned
with traditional Byzantine artworks. The vestiges that one can see on the right hand side of the main entrance are believed to belong to the in-house chapel.
The castle’s idyllic location in the picturesque village of Gardiki due south of the island, in close proximity to the village of Agios Matthaeos attracts hordes of tourists every year.
The castle is renowned for its impregnable fortifications that defended the residents of Corfu on numerous occasions from the marauding and all conquering enemies.
In the present times, one must admit that its ramparts are impeccably preserved and it is a sheer delight just to visit the castle, though the castle is partially destroyed.
Apart from the principal castle, there are numerous other ancient edifices strewn around the castle’s surrounding areas, and each one unique in their architectural features. The fact that the castle is nestled in the midst of verdant Olive groves, imparts a touch of ethereal beauty to the castle’s surroundings.

The wonderful new renovated Villa Halikouna is situated about 25km southwest from Corfu center or Corfu airport, about 500m from the north part of the Korrision lake and in about 900m behind the kms long Halikouna sandy beach. The place where the villa Halikouna is built is very quiet and peaceful, in a distance of about 10-15 walking minutes you can find 3 simple family tavernas where you can taste the delicious fresh fishes and other local delicious plates. A mini market you can find a little further in about 2km away or in Messonghi and Moraitika, 5km away, you can find everything you need, a lot of bars, Restaurants, Pharmacy, Bank automat, Super Markets, souvenir and jewelery shops etc.
